Numerical Investigation of Sloshing Under Roll Excitation at Shallow Liquid Depths and the Effect of Baffles

Abstract Sloshing is relevant in several applications like ship tanks, space and automotive industry seiching harbours. Due to the relationship between sloshing motions possibility of structural damage, it important represent this phenomenon accurately. This paper investigates at shallow liquid depths a rectangular container using experiments RANS simulations. Free forced sloshing, with without baffles, are studied frequencies chosen specifically proximity first mode natural frequency. The numerically calculated free surface elevation close agreement observations from experiments. upper limit resonance zone, under different filling roll amplitudes one, two four baffles also investigated. results show that extent zone reduced for higher depth amplitude. It found inclusion moves frequency which maximum occurs, away fundamental Finally, submerged baffle dissipate more energy compared piercing effect similar single baffle.
